Introduction to Dressmaking and Clothing Alterations – Decoding Patterns to Achieve the Perfect Fit & Make a Toile

This is a Full Day Course ~ but Can be Extended to a Two Day Course on RequestDressmaking1

Have you ever looked at a commercial sewing pattern and thought “Wow, I would love to sew that”. Then you have had second thoughts because what are grain lines, and how do I lay out the pattern onto fabric and cut out what I need because there are all these weird lines and markings that I don’t understand on some tracing paper in the packet?

Then this is the perfect course for you, because understanding a pattern is no more difficult than working your way through a road map, and The Sewing Lab will be your stitching sat nav.

For this course we will provide our own patterns for you to practice with, or you can discuss a pattern that you have in mind beforehand to assess its suitability for the day.  You will also need sufficient calico or medium weight cotton for making your toile, or you can purchase this from us on the day for a small charge.

This class is suitable for beginners, but you should have some basic knowledge of how to use a sewing machine.

A basic sewing kit will be needed, including scissors, needles, threads, markers etc.

Full Day Course - 10 am to 5 pm, snacks and refreshments provided, but not lunch.
